Books of Varying Lifespans Beside Me
I have a reading habit of reading several books simultaneously.
On my bedside table lie books with different beginnings, endings, and lifespans.
Some books quietly gather dust for months, left untouched.
Then one day, they might be picked up again and read in one sitting.
If there were more nights when I read every day, I might be able to close the day a little more peacefully, but it’s more important to me that books don’t feel like homework I need to finish quickly. There’s no particular reason to rush or be impatient. In the space where I sleep, dream, close today, and open tomorrow, I simply like having books close by, together.
I like to read them one by one, slowly, at my own pace. This book for today’s mood, that book for tomorrow’s weather, this book when I want to delve deeper, that book for no particular reason, I like to alternate reading them as I please, depending on my state and mood. If a new book I want to open appears, I like to add it to the pile.

These eight books keep me company these days. Tonight, I feel like settling in with a good book. That’s all for now.
