Conscientiously Filling Hearts
Having started living together in late April before getting married, we’re already 11 months into being a single-income newlywed couple.
Our problem is the enormous food bill..! (Or should I say, alcohol bill..?) Most of our living expenses come from eating and drinking. During our dating peak, we spent 1 million won a month on wine. That’s just for wine, snacks not included… Haha.. Still, after getting married, we definitely cut down on wine. (And now we don’t even have the stamina to drink that much anyway)
To tackle credit card bills bigger than our income, we’ve tried keeping a household budget, setting goals like ‘We only need to spend this much from now on!’ and ‘Let’s cut back by this much!’ with specific amounts. But we consistently fail to make drastic savings. Still, I believe it’s decreasing..! (Though after one trip, expenses just plummet ㅠ.ㅠ)
Trying to be too ambitious and suddenly tighten our belts usually backfires. So, the method I devised this month is simple. It needs to be something visible, a constant reminder to keep us vigilant. We decided to use the memo board we recently bought for the fridge.
Only eat out, order delivery, or drink at home once a week!

We intended to start applying it immediately from Monday, March 3rd,
but the head of our household said holidays are exempt.. So yesterday, we had a (small) meal out and drank at home. Well, holidays are happy days, after all.. ㅋㅋ
From today, I’m definitely going to fill those hearts conscientiously!
