📖 Time to Drink in the Dawn_Lee Yeon

Sometimes there are unexpected gifts. Unexpected gifts are always pleasant, but among them, the one that excites me the most is a book. This adorable mini-sized essay collection’s title alone is a free pass to romance. ‘Time to drink in the dawn’ – short, trivial, diary-like writings often leave a much deeper impression than difficult and abstruse sentences. I, too, join the author in truly savoring the joy of writing and indulging in a delightful waste of time!

📝 Thoughts and Sentences I Loved

pg.21

When evenings stretch long out of regret, we borrow from the dawn. As much as we borrow, we lose from the morning. If we get greedy, we sometimes lose the sounds of morning.

pg.28

I recall the poet’s words: ‘Life is not about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.’ (Who Knows if it’s Good or Bad - Ryu Si-hwa)

pg.32

After a day passes, I see the emotions that have been filtered.

Yesterday’s melancholy is no longer mine; it stands far away. With an unfamiliar face, like a stranger I never knew.

I wonder if this is the advantage of daily writing. It’s the act of collecting evidence that even if I was sad yesterday, I might not be sad tomorrow.

pg.43

The act of packing eggs brings peace to the mind. Because no matter what anyone says, it must be done slowly. In other words, things that shouldn’t be rushed bring peace to the mind. Things that get ruined if you’re hasty, things you regret if you’re impatient. For such things, not rushing at all is the only right answer, so no one scolds you for taking your time. I do it slowly, feeling completely at ease. Smooth and round, my thoughts also seem to become smooth and round.

Some sentences are so impressive that they become guidelines for life. While writing, the following sentence was exactly that for me.

“I firmly pressed the pedals of the cycling machine. It was a slightly strange bicycle that went nowhere. However, it is precisely these kinds of things that are helpful in life.” (For Instance, in the Manner of an Epilogue - Song Ji-hyun)

Sitting alone in my room and writing felt like riding a cycling machine that goes nowhere. However, I think that moments when I tried hard but didn’t make progress accumulated and shaped me. After all, if you consistently do indoor cycling for 30 minutes a day, you’ll lose weight (hoho).
