Starting a Sunday Nostalgia Trip!
On a rainy Sunday,
I made brunch plans in Daehangno, my favorite neighborhood.
Honestly, I usually don’t go out on rainy days.
I’m a cunning and selfish person (?) who looks for excuses to cancel even pre-arranged plans, or decides whether to make plans based on the weather forecast. On rainy days, I just prefer staying cozy indoors, listening to the rain, music, and soaking my spirit, not my body, with simple snacks and drinks. Yet, I made plans even though I knew it would rain! (We’ll have to see how long this positive vacation energy lasts, but I’m proud of myself nonetheless.)
There’s an eonni I met at work, and I liked that she wasn’t overly concerned with others and didn’t offer unnecessary kindness. It turned out she graduated from the same university as me. She graduated two years before I entered as a freshman, so there was no way we would have met at school, and there’s a significant age gap, yet we quickly became close.
Now, my eonni has changed jobs, so we don’t see each other often, but I still call her and meet up sometimes. My eonni and I went to Daehangno, a place filled with our individual memories.
The place we had brunch was 205°C!
This cafe, which my eonni said she passed by every time she left her studio apartment to go to school,
I used to come here often when I was a student because I loved the atmosphere and the coffee.
A place that remains the same even after a long time.

Yes, indoors is the best when it rains!
Drinking coffee and listening to the rain.

But it felt a shame to stay indoors the whole time just because it was raining.
Especially since we came all the way to the campus!
So, my eonni and I decided to walk around campus with umbrellas.
Overcast sky with dark clouds, a quiet campus.
It had its own charm.

If the weather were nice, we would have taken a walk around Sungkyunkwan and taken photos…
But with the rain, I really didn’t have the confidence to step on the muddy ground.
I’ll have to come back when the weather’s good!

I bought Polaroid film.
I resurrected the Polaroid that had been sleeping deep in my drawer!
It’s a very early model, so it’s quite clunky,
But this analog vibe… totally my style…
Taking a commemorative shot of our visit to school.

Coming down from campus and walking along the Hyehwadong Rotary,
The remodeled Dongyangseorim caught my eye.
It’s been renovated to feel like an independent bookstore these days.
On the second floor, a poetry-specialized bookstore has opened,
And there’s even a space to read books,
So I’ll have to come back alone quietly next time.

On a rainy Sunday,
On the way home after a heartwarming trip down memory lane.
It was very enjoyable.
I’ll be back, my beloved Hyehwa <3

P.S. My slightly queasy stomach from eating bread during the day was soothed by my sibling’s rabokki.
End of today’s vacation diary!
