Vinyl for My Birthday

When my birthday approached, I usually answered “no” to the common question, “Is there anything you want?”

I wasn’t particularly materialistic and didn’t want anything, but this year was different.

LPs!! Vinyl!!!

All the LPs at home were filled with my mom’s taste, so I wanted to fill them with albums that reflected my own.

I decided to collect symphonies performed by orchestras, and also my favorite music, especially jazz albums, one by one.

The unfortunate thing is that many very famous albums are sold out or very difficult to find.

Starting with the LPs I received as birthday gifts this year, I’ll gradually complete my own vinyl collection! 😊

This is Holst’s vinyl, performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

I heard that Holst entrusted the premiere to his close friend, conductor Boult, so I chose the one conducted by Boult, thinking it would have special meaning.

I stumbled upon Holst’s The Planets while listening to classical FM radio, and all seven movements beautifully express each planet in a captivating way.

My favorite is the second movement, “Venus,” a piece imbued with elegance and mystery.

Holst’s The Planets seemed to perfectly capture my feelings about space, so I chose it as a must-have masterpiece.

In my teenage years, my hero was Avril Lavigne..!

Avril unnie is forever the original girl crush.

During my adolescence, listening to her music often comforted me.

Truly the masterpiece of my life…💜 I love it.

Avril Lavigne’s first album, .

The day I received this vinyl, I was truly thrilled, excited, and touched.

Just looking at the album cover filled me with emotion.

Back in the day, I listened to this album on cassette.

My girlhood was spent listening to it so much that the cassette tape stretched, and looking at the lyric booklet in that cassette until it tore.

As it’s a limited edition, the vinyl artwork was very flashy.

Artwork that perfectly captured the skater boy, hip tomboy vibe.

The vinyl sleeve design, which was made exactly like the lyric booklet from back then, was incredibly touching.

Seeing Avril unnie’s photo and handwriting transferred directly brought back another trip down memory lane…😂

How much I used to pore over it, trying to recognize her handwriting, and memorizing the lyrics when I was young.

It goes without saying that every single track on this album is a masterpiece.

In the past few years, I’ve been deeply immersed in jazz, and I’ve discovered many truly charming vocalists.

If I had to pick a seductive and sexy female vocalist, it would be Karen Souza.

When I listen to her voice, I feel a sexy sensation, like I’ve just had a warm bath and am snuggled under a fluffy hotel duvet. (smirks)

My eternal jazz ajeossi, Frank Sinatra.

The classic of jazz vocals, a man who simply needs no introduction.

I always seek out Sinatra’s Christmas carol collection in winter (and honestly, in other gloomy seasons too), but listening to it on vinyl brings a whole new emotion, it’s just so good…🎅🏻

This Christmas, I’ll be toasting with Sinatra ajeossi🍷Cheers.

If sexy Frank Sinatra is on the right side of my jazzy heart, then on the left is the fatal Chet Baker…🥰

His irresistible charm has left me dazed many times.

Chet Baker’s album is the absolute best for me.

I always had a great romantic ideal for the trumpet, but after encountering Chet Baker, that dream only intensified.

I hope to strongly encourage my future children to play the trumpet.

Actually, when I first heard Chet Baker’s songs, I naturally thought he was a woman.

Once you fall for his charming, androgynous voice, there’s no escape.

Despite being full of controversies, from women to drugs, if you just focus on his music, you can’t hate him.

At work, I planned and launched a direct purchase promotion full of personal interest.

And I happily ordered the Disney Picture Disc Aladdin vinyl..✨

When I received it, I was surprised by how beautiful it was in person!

There’s a lot of great Disney music, but Aladdin’s music has so many masterpieces, and since I love purple and Princess Jasmine, I chose the Aladdin picture disc and I’m extremely satisfied.

The front features Jasmine and Aladdin on the magic carpet.

The back is our mischievous Genie of the Lamp.

Oh man, Will Smith’s dancing machine keeps coming to mind…

The dazzling Aladdin picture disc spinning on the LP player💜

Lastly, “LP Love,” the LP store in Hoehyeon I visited for my first digging experience.

I remember chatting with the owner there for quite a long time…

There are so many offline LP shops I want to visit, but I’m hesitant because of COVID-19. Sigh…

I want to freely wander around, smelling that musty vinyl scent.
